About us - A must read

Crafting Legends in Leather

Welcome to Old Country Leather, where every stitch tells a story and every piece is a rebellion against the throwaway culture of today. Nestled in the heart of small-town Canada, we’re not just a business—we’re a family, a legacy, and a promise. We’ve been pouring our grit, soul, and craftsmanship into leather goods that don’t just last—they become part of your life’s adventure.
It all started with a simple idea: make something real. Something you can feel in your hands, smell in the air, and trust to stand the test of time. From our workshop just outside of Chesley Ontario we’ve built a name on hard work, honest materials, and a stubborn refusal to cut corners. Our leather isn’t mass-produced—it’s handpicked, handcrafted, and made to order, because you deserve gear as unique as you are.
We’re not here to follow trends. We’re here to set standards. Whether it’s a rugged wallet that holds your secrets, a belt that’s tougher than the trails you walk, or a custom piece carved from your wildest ideas, we’re obsessed with getting it right. Our family—lives and breathes this craft, and we’re damn proud to share it with you.
Old Country Leather isn’t just about what we make; it’s about who we are. We’re the late nights sketching designs, the calloused hands that shape every curve, and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. We’re for the dreamers, the doers, and the ones who value the weight of something real in a world gone flimsy.
So, pull up a chair. Explore our collection. Let’s build something together that’ll outlast us both.

Here’s the raw truth about us: we don’t wait for someone else to hand us perfection—we grab it with both hands and make it ourselves. We taught ourselves to build our own website from scratch, breathed new life into our machines with grit and elbow grease, and yeah, we’ve even tanned hides just to prove we could (don’t worry, not for our gear). We swung the hammers and wired the lights to craft our shop from the ground up. Every photo you see? We snapped it—still learning, but owning it. Every logo, every design, every worktable? That’s Luke, pouring his soul into it, because good enough isn’t in our blood. Why? Because if you want it done right—really right—you don’t sit back and hope. You roll up your sleeves and fight for it. That’s who we are: relentless, real, and damn proud to invite you into our world. We’re here to do it right, for us and for you.

We pride ourselves on the fact that we make all our items from start to finish, in our small workshop, located in Ontario Canada.

How we started - For those who want to know about the people behind the product.

Luke and Jake kicked off Old Country Leather with nothing but guts and grit—a shaky 5x3 foot table shoved in a corner, $500 in tools and leather, and a fire in their souls. No handouts, no safety nets—just two brothers who had to make it work. Why? Jake’s health crashed hard, stripping him of what he once could do, and Luke, his fierce protector, roared into action with a wild idea: leather. It was their lifeline—work side by side, set their own pace, no crushing loads or brutal strain to break Jake down. Every year, they clawed their way up, pouring blood, sweat, and every dime back into the dream. Then life threw a sucker punch—Luke was blindsided by a massive stroke. Jake, alone for the first time, shouldered the business and the family farm with a heart full of fear and fury. Luke’s comeback was a slow, brutal fight—he battled to walk again, to reclaim his place in the shop. These brothers don’t bend, they don’t break. They’ve never taken the coward’s path, and their integrity? Untouchable.
"We have never taken the easy route and we have always kept our integrity." ---Jake Co-owner

From our workshop to your hands

When an order is received at Old Country Leather, Majority of it does not simply await dispatch from a pre-stocked shelf. Instead, a meticulous process unfolds, beginning with a thorough review of the customer’s selected options. This initial step ensures precision—verifying that no errors have occurred and that no critical detail has been overlooked, safeguarding the integrity of the final product. From there, the crafting commences with the selection of leather from our curated stock. This is no arbitrary choice; we deliberate over the appropriate thickness and type, recognizing that each section of hide serves a distinct purpose, tailored to the demands of the project at hand.

The artistry then advances to precise handwork: measuring and cutting the leather with exactitude, followed by skillful trimming and beveling of the edges to achieve a refined form. Where necessary, holes are meticulously punched, each placement calculated for function and durability. The leather then undergoes a transformative dyeing process,  imparting both color and character. To ensure longevity and luster, every piece is treated with a protective sealant and conditioned to enhance its natural suppleness.

Further refinement follows as edges are smoothed to a flawless finish, and, if the design demands it, expert sewing is executed with care. For items requiring personalized typography, a masterful technique is employed—each letter is hand-carved into the leather prior to dyeing, then delicately hand-painted to elevate its distinction. Finally, the assembly phase integrates any hardware, securing it with precision to complete the work. This process exemplifies not merely craftsmanship, but a disciplined harmony of technique, purpose, and artistry, culminating in a bespoke creation of exceptional quality.

Our Pledge of Integrity

Multiple times each week, we field calls from companies peddling their so-called "leather" goods from overseas, dangling prices so low they undercut even our raw costs to craft here in Canada. Time and again, we reject them with unshakable resolve. Why? Because their products—too often forged through the exploitation of child labor, stitched from substandard, counterfeit leathers, and engineered to fail—stand in direct opposition to everything we hold dear. They’re built to crumble, destined for endless replacement, fattening profits at the expense of principle.

We could rake in higher margins. We could save ourselves the labor of crafting each piece by hand. But that’s not who we are. At Old Country Leather, our integrity isn’t negotiable—it’s forged in the same fire as our commitment to you. We Pledge to create every single item in our shop, right here, with our own hands, refusing to peddle premade shortcuts. This is our solemn promise—not just to our customers, but to everyone who shares our reverence for honest work and lasting value.

Our leather isn’t disposable. It’s a legacy—crafted to endure, to be handed down through generations, not discarded into landfills. That’s the stand we take, and we’ll never waver.

A business run by family. Each bring different strengths to the business. Brothers Jake & Luke were sick of the poor quality found in products on the store shelves with no options for personal customization, and less and less being made in North America.

You would be shocked if you knew how most businesses operated

It’s a disheartening truth we've uncovered over time: the vast majority of so-called "Canadian" and "American" leather businesses aren’t crafting anything at all. Instead, they’re quietly importing mass-produced goods from overseas, slapping their own tags and logos on them, and passing them off as homegrown creations. Peel back the polished veneer of their marketing, and you’ll find a troubling reality—many of these companies are little more than middlemen, shipping out pre-made products while pouring their energy into slick advertising campaigns. The surprise isn’t just that this happens; it’s how rampant it is. Quality? Craftsmanship? Those take a backseat to profit and perception.

At Old Country Leather, we refuse to play that game. Our mission is as straightforward as it is profound: we make every single item ourselves, from the ground up, starting with the raw cowhide. No shortcuts, no imported impostors—just honest, hands-on creation. Our leather goods are born from ethical practices, shaped with genuine passion, and finished with meticulous care. While others hide behind outsourced illusions, we stand apart, rooted in the integrity of true craftsmanship. What you get from us isn’t just a product—it’s a piece of our commitment, built to last, not to deceive.
